The Durst-Taylor House

The Durst-Taylor House is a circa 1830 wood-frame house, second oldest dwelling existing in Nacogdoches. The House is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, a Texas Archaeological Landmark, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built when most domestic dwellings in Nacogdoches were log cabins or palisados (vertical posts and adobe). The pier-and-beam foundation, wood framing, and exterior and interior features make it a rare surviving example of a Deep South Anglo-influenced frame dwelling from the late Mexican or early Republic period of Texas history.
